Community Cyanotype Workshop
New Orleans Healing Center
September 29, 2018
10am – 4pm
FREE | All Ages | Please RSVP
PhotoNOLA, in partnership with the New Orleans Healing Center, is pleased to present a free community workshop in celebration of World Cyanotype Day. On Saturday, September 29, photographers and artists across the globe will gather in backyards, parking lots, galleries and parks to connect, create and celebrate the cyanotype, a simple and fun antiquarian photographic process. People of all ages are invited to come learn and play.
Cyanotype, a photographic printing process that results in graphic blue and white prints, is the perfect place to start an education in alternative (non-silver) photographic processes. Invented by Sir John Herschel in 1842, not only is this medium low in cost and simple to master, it also creates beautiful and distinctive results.
Schaefer’s photographs have been exhibited internationally, including one-person exhibitions in the Amerika Hauses in Munich, Hamburg, Hannover and Frankfurt, Germany; Kulturhaus in Graz, Austria; a 25-Year Retrospective at the Huntsville Museum of Art, in Alabama; the Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan in Delhi, and the Government Museum and Art Gallery in Chandigarh, India.
I'm looking forward to playing this gig in support of theupcoming Musicians Mentors & Barroom Heroes live CD which will benefit the N.O. Musicians Clinic and WHIV 102.3fm! Shawn Williams, Red DeVecca, Jean Bayou, Jim Smith and Patrick Cooper are on the bill as well. MMBRH is a weekly radio show on WHIV hosted by Laura DeFazio.
See more info from Laura below:
Crawfish Boil/Fundraiser at the center of the (relevant) universe, Checkpoint Charlie's! I'm putting together a live compilation album from the past year of Musicians, Mentors, and Barroom Heroes on 102.3 WHIV FM that needs $$$ raised! (All proceeds from said album will be split between WHIV and the New Orleans Musicians' Clinic in honor of our friend Washboard Lissa, who passed away last year and will be featured playing guitar from an episode last February.)
(You can also donate here: www.gofundme.com/mmbrh)
If the album gets made, you'll hear recordings of at least 10 local artists playing original tunes live on-air (hopefully more, if we raise enough to make a double album!) plus various tidbits of other things... Pizza Mike reciting dirty poetry from bathroom walls, Nervous Duane reading aloud from his science fiction book, objectively-witty banter, etc....
Crawfish boiled by culinary wizard Brooks Hyena Webb and the infamous Michael Darby!
Live music by Shawn Williams, Red DeVecca, Jim Smith, Jean Bayou, Natasha Sanchez, Patrick Cooper, & others who'll appear on the album.
Raffle! Exotic & titillating prizes TBA.
